International Drum Major Institute (IDMI) was created with great intentions and outstanding credibility to provide the best instruction to drum majors everywhere.  Private lessons are the foundation for the Institute's success for effectively educating its students.

Why Private Instruction?

Drum Majors don't grasp every technique that is first presented to them.  For that reason, beginning drum majors must be trained on a consistent basis so that bad habits don't develop.

Advanced Drum Majors on the other hand, need private instruction so that they remain challenged.  Having a private instructor reinforces the mentality that you never stop learning.

What Distinguishes IDMI from the Rest?

IDMI provides each student with a more than qualified instructor.  Each instructor has not only had the experience of winning prestigious parades and championships, but is also successful at teaching and being leadership mentors.

What also distinguishes IDMI from other drum major instructors and camps, is its utilization of effective communication and technology to enhance the overall experience of learning.

In addition to physical technique training, drum majors are taught to analyze and critique recordings of actual drum major performances.  This visual training further educates IDMI’s students to understand how adjudicators judge and critique.

Included with every lesson is a digital recording given immediately after the lesson.  This immediate feedback is an extremely valuable tool that will remind each student of what he or she learned, how an instructor taught a particular flourish, or if the student forgot what needed to be practiced.  The recording serves as an aid to further visual training as mentioned in the previous paragraph.*

Another unique part of the curricula is a leadership book reading program.  This program is heavily emphasized for school band drum majors.  All books recommended to students are first read by the Directors of IDMI for approval and relevance to curricula.
